Robin Gent and Rob Harting founded Distant Greens Golfing Holidays on 4 September 1995, turning a shared passion for golf and travel into a unique journey. With Malaysia as our one and only destination, every trip was personally accompanied by us, creating lasting friendships, unforgettable memories, and a loyal community of returning guests. After thirty wonderful and successful years, we have decided to bring our activities to an end.
We look back on countless special journeys—not only golf trips, but also non-golf trips—for both small and large groups, always in varying compositions. From intimate gatherings to large-scale groups, every trip had its own character and charm.
Robin’s dream quickly became reality. After five years, he emigrated to Malaysia. Rob followed in 2005 by spending his winters there and later even purchased a beautiful apartment.
As many as 70% of our guests were repeat visitors, returning time and again to enjoy this remarkable country for longer stays. Many of them were even inspired to invest in real estate themselves.
Through Distant Greens, our travelers were actively supported in the purchase, renovation, and rental of their properties. The rental of these apartments grew—alongside our travel business—more rapidly than expected.
Around 2009 The financial management skills provided by Ann Jackson (Rob’s partner) proved invaluable to our growing company.
Distant Greens Golfing Holidays was also established in Malaysia with Rajah, director of Oceanic, allowing both apartment rentals and travel bookings to be handled more flexibly and efficiently.
One of our very first guests to Malaysia felt the same “vibe” for this beautiful country as we did. His investment went beyond just one apartment, which—alongside our travel operations—provided us with a stable and consistent rental and management business.
Distant Greens became a member of **IAGTO** (International Association of Golf Tour Operators). Through this worldwide network, we were able to offer golf trips to many destinations across the globe, while our golf holidays to Malaysia gained increased international recognition.
Now, after 30 years of Distant Greens Golfing Holidays, we have finally made a definitive decision: it is time to enjoy life even more. Robin will continue his life in Malaysia as an MM2H retiree, while we will be based in the Netherlands, spending eight months a year enjoying family, children, and grandchildren—followed by four wonderful winter months in Langkawi.
